“Often the hands will solve a mystery that the intellect has struggled with in vain”.

Carl Jung

(Famous Psychologist known for contributions to psychotherapy & many fields in psychology)

  1. Gather: 5–10 small objects from your surroundings.

  2. Arrange: Quickly and intuitively place them in front of you to represent your present moment.

  3. Remove: Take a photo of this arrangement, then remove the objects one by one, noticing any inner shifts as the shape dissolves.

  4. Rearrange: the same objects into a new constellation—letting your hands lead, focusing on echoes of the past. Photograph this setup.

  5. Come together again: Finally, let the objects come together once more, this time inviting something entirely new that feels lighter or more open. Photograph again.

  6. Reflect quietly: Look at the three images, jotting down words or impressions.

  7. Ask yourself: The following Questions:

Ask these questions

  • What connects your three images?

  • Where is there movement or transformation?

  • What’s new in the final image, and how might it help you going forward?

Spoiler Alert !Don't read this until you finish the Art Exercise.

Below are my personal images, reflecting the journey: My past ("Where I came from"), my present ("Now"), and my direction ("What is coming”).

As Prof always say: "There is no right or wrong to reflection." We know ourselves best, the artwork acts as a medium to access this understanding.

Here's what i see in my composition..
Here's what i see in my composition..

Past : Where I Came From The first image represents a period where I approached challenges and emotions with avoidance.

This pattern led to restless nights and a lack of self-care (burn midnight oil, never eating on time). I suppressed disappointment and anxiousness I felt instead of facing it.

In Many of the drawing I made with prof during the workshops, my portraits or sculptures do not have mouth and ears.

My present : Now The second image reflects the turning point after the Biography Art-Based Coaching Classes with Prof Hildrun Last year.

Through art, I re-learning the importance of boundaries and self-respect (I start to see me).

The circle motif in my art symbolises wholeness, balance, and the protection I’m now giving myself.

My direction: What is coming

The third image captures the direction I’m moving toward: consolidation and clarity.

It reminds me to focus on what truly matters, to say “no” when I need to, and to create a space for what fits my journey. Most importantly, remember to come back to myself, zoom in on me, not just on others.

Spontaneity in art therapy is SUPER Important.
Spontaneity in art therapy is SUPER Important.

Spontaneity in art therapy is essential because it bypasses the thinking mind and activates the intuitive, emotional parts of the brain where deeper truths and memories reside.

In the three-part arrangement exercise, we create without planning — letting hands lead instead of logic. This bypass allows the unconscious to speak visually, revealing how we relate to time, change, and identity.

By engaging creativity directly rather than through explanation, we access embodied insight and emotional wisdom that words often cannot reach. The process transforms what is hidden into something visible and tangible, connecting past, present, and future into one coherent, healing narrative.

What if you don’t see anything from the images?

That’s okay—many of us start there. I remember having the same question last year.

For over a decade, my work in legal tax appeal cases trained my mind to depend on logic, analysis, and evidence. Creating art felt unfamiliar, almost uncomfortable at first. It took a few rounds of simply working with my hands before I began to reconnect with the quiet parts of myself that had gone unheard for so long. Then one day, I began to notice something—the shapes, colours, and gestures on paper mirrored my own embodied pain and that prolonged numbness. I cried. Surprisingly, for the first time, through art, I “see me” after so many years of neglect.
